Kamal Tabrizi, born in 1959 in Tehran, graduated from the College of Cinema and Theatre. He first directed short films from 1979 on until in 1988 he finally made his first full-length feature “The Passage”. His breakthrough came with “Leily is with me” (1995), a satire on the Iran-Iraq war, while “Maternal Love” (1998) secured his international reputation and was awarded an array of prizes at numerous festivals. His latest film “The Wind Carpet” (2003) recounts how a young Japanese girl travels to Iran with her father to collect a Persian carpet designed by her mother, who has been tragically killed in an accident."
